A little about me...

How and why I came to be a music teacher:  I grew up with parents who had a love and great respect for music.  My father played the trumpet, and my mother played the piano and sang.  My brother learned to play the trumpet and piano, and my sister studied the piano.  By the time I came along,  it just seemed natural for me to become involved in music.  I began studying the piano and sang in choirs and choruses.  When I headed off to college, the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!), my plan was to study to become a veterinarian.  By the middle of my sophomore year,  I realized my passion for music had a grip that wouldn't let go.  I declared music as my major, graduated, and became a teacher.

My teaching background:  I am in my twenty-third year of teaching music in Fulton County.  I've lost count of the number of schools in which I've taught (several in the south end of the county have closed), but I know there are more than fifteen.  Just before coming to New Prospect, I taught at Lake Windward for several years.  I have been at New Prospect since the school opened and plan on being here until I retire.  I have been a member of the Fulton County Elementary Advisory Council since 1988 and was awarded New Prospect's Teacher of the Year in 2000.

My choral background includes singing in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus under the direction of Robert Shaw from the 1980’s until his retirement; directing the Spectrum Show Choir of Alpharetta; and directing the Atlanta Girl Choir and the Atlanta Children's Choir.  For the last eight years, I have directed the Fulton County Children's Honor Chorus.

A little about my personal life:  I am married and have two step-sons who are excelling in music in their own right (saxophone and guitar - electric and acoustic).   I have a dog who thinks she's musical, too.  She loves to sing for her supper and bark for her breakfast.  She seems to like it when I begin howling, I mean... "singing" with her.  We can carry on for minutes until she picks up one of her stuffed toys and throws it at me (truthfully!).
